After drawing face-to-face caricatures for four days at the Tall Ships Maritime Festival in Belfast in August 2009, some U105 radio station listener phoned Frank Mitchell on his morning show to ask if anyone knew who I was. As I was listening at the time, I promptly phoned in and before I knew it, I was on the air talking to Frank, who asked if I could draw a caricature of him. Before another week was up, Frank showed the caricature on the TV on his Weather Watchers section of the weather report!.
Belfast-based cartoonist John Farrelly has drawn hundreds of caricatures over the years, including ones of celebrities such as George Best, Gerry Kelly, David Humphreys, May McFettridge and many more! John won a Scope award for producing the best information leaflet of 2005, It’s A Tough Time For Everyone. As well as drawing caricatures, John does comic strips, storyboards and book illustration.
